Zane ONE Is An LA Woman!

preview the album at myspace.com/zanelawoman

I first was introduced to the sound of Zane One via her myspace profile (myspace.com/zanelawoman). At the time I was booking artists for a charity showcase (The Platform) and was looking to fill some slots towards the end. After sifting through a mountain of sub-par artists, I found this gem, who listed her sound as a blend of Hip-Hop, Classic Rock & Soul -I was instantly hooked after the first few bars and immediately contacted her to book the gig.

Zane ONE is the perfect b-boy complement: creative, articulate, ambitious & genuinely is passionate about hip-hop. Her live performance is passionate and draws upon her diverse life experience and roles. She closed her set with some material that she had written about a decade ago -the verses were so fresh, I swore that she wrote them in the car.

Her debut album, “L.A. Woman” -with production by Dert, a long time collaborator, explores the world through her observant glances, could be regarded as timeless & just might contain some, “…play ‘em when I die tunes”.

Name & Crew?

Zane One | L.P.G.-Tunnel Rat Crew & S.N.F

When did you fall in love with Hip-Hop?

I was introduced to this culture thru my brother DAX -and was immediately infatuated with Hip-Hop throughout my tender years in the 80’s. I am a product of generation -so I can honestly say I fell in love with Hip-Hop in the 90’s…

What are the challenges of being an emcee in the LA Underground?

I don’t personally feel any challenges being a part of the underground…it’s actually an honor to be known locally and respected as an emcee by my fellow Angelinos -not just because I’m a woman, but because of paid dues and skill.

“Almost Cut My Hair”, was my introduction to your sound and I think it’s an important piece -what inspired it’s creation?

Thank you -this Neil Young tune is one of my favorite jams that I want to be played at my funeral. But, when I first heard the track that my homeboy “DERT” made to it, I knew what I must say…I thought of all the ridiculous pressure we as women put on ourselves about our hair. It’s funny how life can be great of broken because of our do’s -society has messed with our minds for too long…

Most important things in your life?

My children: Monet, Takoa, Miles & Eliyah -they are everything…trying to practice & obtain kingdom living.

Any shoutouts, namechecks etc?

Peace to my people who always have my back…DERT, Papa No Good, L.P.G, Raphi Henley, T.R. Fam, Future Shock, Zeke, S.N.F.Nay Nay, Sherry Ann, Fuss One, DJ Soluz, Activ8, Eye See Vincent, His Place

Blessings!

-Ziggy Zane One!
